There are two choices from Townsville to Maggie.
Both ferries depart from the inner city area and both arrive into Nelly Bay.
Option 1 :
Sealink passenger ferry. This is a 20 minute fast catamaran ride to the island. Bookings are not required, just arrive at the terminal about 20 minutes before departure and purchase your tickets inside the terminal.
Option 2:
Magnetic Island Ferries takes cars, trucks and motorbikes (and walk-on passengers) for a 40 minute cruise to the island. Bookings are ESSENTIAL for vehicles. You can book either online or in the terminal but must be ready to board 20 minutes before departure.
Buses meet every ferry right outside the terminal. Hop on the bus that says Picnic Bay, and its less than a 2 minute ride to Lakatoi.
The unit is located inside Amaroo resort on Mandalay Avenue.
Just ask the bus driver to stop at "Amaroo" and he will happily do so.
From there its a 30 second walk to your room.
There is also a taxi service available.
The bus service is easy to use on Maggie.
From the central Nelly Bay Terminal (where the ferry is also), one bus goes left towards Picnic Bay and the other bus goes right towards Horseshoe Bay.
The buses meet each ferry daily so co-ordinating your trip is simple.
Car and Scooter hire is also available, or bring your own car on the ferry.
In the kitchen you will find everything you need to cook your own meals. Crockery, cutlery, utensils, cookware such as frypan, saucepan, mixing bowls and storage containers, blender, etc.
The kitchen is also stocked with some basic pantry supplies such as oil, salt, pepper, and cleaning items such dishwashing liquid, and spray and wipe etc that you are welcome to use.
The bathroom comes with towels, make up removing towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toilet paper and laundry pods.
The bathroom supplies are a starter kit, which would last guests 2-3 days. Should you be staying longer, please bring your own favourite products or head to the local store to purchase more.
The laundry is a communal one near reception, which is coin operated.
At the front of the resort is a free outdoor carpark, just drive in and find a spot. It's about a 30 second walk to Lakatoi from the carpark.
Wifi is available at no charge in the reception area of the resort. Otherwise the usual phone providers have coverage across the island.
